Following the ending of Friday evening lectures at Ashwood Nurseries, I am delighted we are able to continue the Friday lectures. In association with Ashwood Nurseries we have secured bookings for 2022 and onwards at the Community Centre High St, Swindon, Dudley DY3 4NR, which has a large hall very suited to lectures and all the usual facilities including good parking, facilities for refreshments and is close to local amenities including several quality eating premises (Ashwood Nurseries Tea Room?) for those who might want to eat before joining us.
We have arranged to have access to the hall from 1pm with meetings running from 2-4.15pm with a tea break part way through the lecture. We are open to suggestions for topics and speakers, We propose that in each session of three lectures we have two top quality guest speakers and I will also give a talk or lecture. I have more than 140 lecture titles listed on my website, www.thedrurys.com, and am happy to receive suggestions as to topics you would like me to cover. I am currently working on several new titles and hope to have at least one of these ready for our Spring season. Possible Titles include Howard Drury The Central Television Years, Ground Cover Gems and Horrors and Gardeners and Climate Change.
We hope to have at least one guest speaker at each group of lectures, but we will need to calculate numbers and costs, much of which will be determined by the numbers attending the lectures. For this season, the cost for all three lectures will be £15.00 or £5.50 per individual lecture. At the last meeting of each three, we will invite you to pay for the next three meetings. You can complete the form and pay then, as this will save on the extortionate cost of postage. Note we will only cash your cheques as we need to pay speakers, venue etc.
We will look at numbers and costings of future sessions, but I do hope to keep the costs the same while being able to book quality speakers, however we have had a 25% increase in the cost of hiring the hall and this will need to be taken into account. Thankfully, the recent new members should mean we do not need to put up the cost of attending meetings.
Out of the 70 who attended in 2022 more than 50 have already attended the 2023 meetings I have since mailed out to all others on my list. If you would like to attend, please email me or telephone me to reserve a place, as we are limited to a maximum of 100 people in this superb venue. If you want to remain on our mailing list but cannot attend in the near future, please let me know, as we will only mail out to those who are interested to keep costs to a minimum.
